TSL Lam-Rim Retreat (expression of interest only)

The monastery is considering offering a twelve-month lamrim retreat for students wanting to integrate in a focused manner the knowledge and skills they have cultivated over years of attending teachings and doing daily practice. The retreat will commence in 2026.

Group retreats require a formal structure but when conducted over an extended period, the retreat also needs to be adaptable to individual needs. Therefore, the general ethos of the retreat will be open and inclusive, structured yet personal.

Weekly teachings will be given by Atisha Centre’s resident teacher, Geshe Thubten Rabten, for much of the retreat (the exception will be the two month period when he returns to India). Geshe Rabten will emphasise how to meditate on each topic, but will not teach the topics in detail as retreatants require prior in-depth lamrim studies. Geshe-la will also be available for interviews and advice.

Each day will be divided into a number of meditation sessions. These will not be guided; therefore, retreatants will need to have experience meditating on the lamrim. It is felt to be preferable to have the sessions unguided so that retreatants can meditate in their own style, whilst following the structure and guidance given by Geshe Rabten in his weekly teachings.

Moreover, whilst each day will be structured around a set number of formal meditation sessions, retreatants will be empowered to judge their own energy levels and adapt the length of their session, as well as being empowered to skip sessions entirely when required.

For those who have a deep wish to participate in a twelve-month lamrim retreat, but cannot commit to so many months, please still apply and state the period that you can join for. As we do not know what level of interest this retreat will receive, we will consider the possibility of some joining us for a shorter period after the number of retreatants for the full twelve month period becomes clear.

As this is only an expression of interest at this point please reach out if it is something you are interested in.
